The day is May 3rd, 2011 and history has just been made in the NBA. Derrick Rose, point guard for the Chicago Bulls has just become the youngest MVP in the leagues storied history. At the time Rose was considered by many to be a top three player in the league and certainly on his way to a hall of fame career. Fast forward seven years and three knee surgeries later and we arrive to today. Before the start of this week Derrick Rose's story was considered to be possibly the saddest in sports. The once league altering point guard has fallen considerably from his MVP level play. Like so many other young, promising players the fall is the result of injury. He suffered two major knee injuries which contributed to Derrick missing 257 games over the span of eight seasons. Since playing for the Bulls he has played for the Knicks, Cavs, and Timberwolves. Last season Derrick was on the verge of retiring and being another what if story. But, what if I told you..... a rose could bloom twice? THATS RIGHT D ROSE IS BACK BITCHES. Earlier this week the three time all-star scored a career high 50 points in a performance that had the entire NBA community in utter disbelief. What may have seemed like a fluke is not by evidence of yesterday's game against the Lakers. Rose dropped 31 points and made a career best 7 three pointers. It seems as though Derrick has found his shot after all these years, and more importantly he has his confidence back. All D Rose needs to do now is get his signature short haircut from the early Bulls days and we'll be all set. This is a story that every single person can get behind. We never got to see the greatness of Derrick Rose over a full career, but maybe just maybe he isn't done yet. He is currently averaging over 18 ppg and is in early contention for the 6th man of the year award. Everyone now has their eyes on Derrick Rose as his reemergence has become one of the most exciting and unexpected storylines of the early NBA season. Hopefully he can keep the success going and bloom once again.
